Support Michelle's Journey to a Safe Home

I founded More Than Mothers to create a safe, inclusive space where women could gather, speak freely, dream boldly—and then act. A place to talk about marriage and motherhood, careers and justice, and to turn those conversations into real change.
It’s been incredible. But now it’s our turn to give back.
Because we are more than mothers. We’re neighbors and friends, spouses and colleagues. We stand for women, LGBTQI communities, people of color, people with disabilities.
And we believe housing is a human right.
Recently, I finished There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America by Brian Goldstone—and I can’t stop thinking about it. This extraordinary book exposes a scandal hiding in plain sight: millions of people with full-time jobs are homeless. Families working multiple jobs, getting kids to school, while sleeping in cars, storage units, and rundown motels.
Goldstone follows five Atlanta mothers—Kara, Michelle, Celeste, Natalia, and Britt—who fight every day to keep their children safe and stable, even as low wages and soaring rents push them to the margins. Their stories are intimate, urgent, and unforgettable.
From now through November, More Than Mothers is partnering with Brian to support Michelle, a mother of three who is still unhoused today.
When the book begins, Michelle is pursuing her dream of becoming a social worker while fighting to keep her family housed. After her fiancé squanders their rent money, she and her children lose their apartment and end up in a freezing storage room—selling plasma and food stamps just to get by. When a daycare job finally offers hope, the lack of affordable childcare for her youngest forces her to turn it down. The cycle of survival grinds on.
We can help change that.
Here’s how:
Donate—every dollar goes directly to Michelle and her children.
Share—spread the word with friends and family.
Care—even if giving isn’t possible, your attention matters.
Together, we can move Michelle and her children toward the safety and stability they deserve.
Thank you.
